While Carolla gets a third chance to make his radio show work, his "news girl" could use a new photo

Were you listening this morning? We missed it, but apparently radio blowhard Adam Carolla returned for a third year of turning away listeners from Howard Stern's old radio slot in Los Angeles, but without the benefit of sharp, compelling, relevance-infusing radio veteran Danny Bonaduce (Tabloid Baby's Radio Personality of 2007) to keep things real. That's because Carolla ran a backstabbing campaign to get Bonaduce, whose presence raised the ratings in Carolla's second year (and chance), off the show.

Of course, Carolla has his female "news girl" (as she calls herself) back on board. Teresa Strasser plays the part of the whiny, servile, stereotypically unlucky-at-love "Jewish princess," and her positioning in the ad on the Carolla website (top) shows she definitely knows her place. Strasser also has a minor role in the syndicated television series based on the corporate porn-pushing gossip site, TMZ.com (where she also knows her place), but she apparently only has one air-brushed "sexy picture" that the ad department has to use and re-use every time there's a new ad campaign or change in line-up (above). They flip it and cut it and move it around, but it's the same shot (see yet more versions on her MySpace page here and website here). But that's how Carolla and his very limited dorky male audience like her.  Airbrushed and pretend-sultry-- and way in the background.

Anyway, did you hear the Carolla show? Or Bonaduce's afternoon entry?  Let us know.

Funny you should ask. Just finished talking to someone minutes ago who asked about Bonaduce. This person has regularly said she liked the Carolla show, but today struck her as very weird... Shocked that Danny was fired. I had to clarify if this was the actual word used, since Danny was moved to afternoons. Fired was the impression Adam relayed during the show; he claimed, based on "overwhelming listener e-mail."

I saw the pro-Carolla threads elsewhere: multiple posts from repeat visitors to a fanboy site. It's as if 1 blogger equals 1,000 television viewers. CBS will broadcast a radio show to 500 rabid listeners, who have time (and compensation?) to post.

Or maybe not.

Having Jimmy Kimmel as a friend truly underscores the friends in high places analogy.

Thanks to Danny's honest and entertaining side, the show became more interesting, according to this ACS listener. I only knew she was a fan of Adam's -- but that's changing. The selfish petty streak is coming out stronger, like an arrogant bully who becomes more obnoxious with Dad's full approval.

Future outlook: She, generally a (former) Carolla fan, is picking up on his vibes of jealousy and insecurity. Adam, you may not care. You are shamelessly working out childhood problems in the workplace, and minus Jimmy Kimmel -- you would not be successful. But you know that.

Dr. Drew Pinsky even said in the fawning LA Mag write-up that Adam is 'borderline narcissistic' and 'easily finds fault in others while failing to see his own flaws.' (Dr. Drew, you seem to be right on the money.) Drew also was quoted in the article as saying that Adam 'has an inability to empathize with others.'

In conversation, I said this Adam-Danny story is on quite a few sites, and jealousy has definitely been a factor, to the point of Adam booking comedians to shove Danny off the air. She predicts AC is headed for a fall. But I said, not so fast. Jimmy Kimmel is a damn powerful ally. Bullies are made, not born, so just imagine the path of destruction Adam will indulge in now.

She's listened and said Danny definitely added to the show. Adam is getting more arrogant and less likeable. She asked if he was that way off the air. I said I'd loan her the magazine story and she'll see that he, in fact, is. She noted, like we all have, that Danny was deferential and willing to play second-banana. And despite his crazy mistakes, Bonaduce has a sweet core and a truthfulness to share with listeners. (I call it vulnerability.) And all this, according to a regular morning-commute TACS listener. Danny contributed something more truthful than Adam has become.

Like a spoilt child, I fear Adam is being 'fatally poisoned' by the high-rollers who are letting him slaughter. When regular listeners are picking up on weird jealous vibes, that's pretty telling. She's sorry Danny's now "fired." A steady Adam Carolla listener who's enjoyed Danny's contributions and found them an immense improvement to an otherwise okay show. Bigger surprise, she's noticing that Adam's constant negativity and selfishness is not a routine.

Tabloid Baby, having read your link to the fawning LA Mag story, a person can learn several key facts about Adam, some good, some bad.

More or less... he said on the air today that 'over 50% of the emails were against Danny. And ya' just can't keep going on after that much. 50% maybe but 51% - no" (etc.)

It's disheartening to realize that mediocre ratings won't affect this man. His golden connections will sit like angels on his shoulder, helping him create a bigger monster than what we're hearing now.

His poor wife.

I have been a loyal Pod cast listener for the past 4 months. It was by far the best radio program out there.

I found Danny both very annoying and intriguing. When Danny truly played a 2nd fiddle He, Adam and Teresa had a great flow. However during interviews Danny was constantly interrupting Adam and ruining the interviews.

However after listening to the new show it did not have the same flow as the original and I found myself wanting to hear from Danny.

Carolla is very funny and his views/rants on life are some of the best radio I have heard, but it is lacking something (maybe Danny Lite).

The Velvet Rope has a topic going on Ace and Danny. Basically "two lead guitar players" but Adam didn't want to give more of his show to Danny (jealous).

Heard the Bonaduce hour today. He sounded great. Funny and humble, kinda crazy and just good times.

He said good things about Adam on the air, mentioned Perez Hilton and a couple other recent things.

He needs a minimum of 3 hours in the afternoon. Is there room?

Hopefully Adam's happy and can concentrate on his own show.

I've been a fan of Adam Carolla for several years. I've listened to his show since it started.

I have finally decided to change the station this year. I'll go back to Kevin and Bean, at least until Adam Carolla is off the air. The problem with the Adam Carolla show was NOT Danny or even the more annoying Dave Damasheck. The problem is Adam.

His show is very slow paced, and he talks about stuff no one but him and his friends are interested in.

This is just a small list of what makes Adam Carolla a pain to listen to:

-Music Mondays (obscure music from the 70s 80s etc..since Adam likes it, everyone else must)
-Deaf Frat Guy ( a fake deaf guy, at least Howard's wack pack was REAL. If you want to copy Howard, copy him correctly)

-Lame unfunny bits like Oswaldo's movie reviews (the exact same review every time PREDICTABLE and ANNOYING.) Definitely NOT a Jew. Remodeling Tips, Mr.Bircham,Weekly-Monthly-Daily-Yearly review of "Rants". What can't Adam complain about.

-Kissing Jimmy Kimmels ass constantly.

-Same weak "celebrity" guests like David Alan Grier (who else would have this hasbeen on?), Joe Mchale, etc...

-He has a smug "American Genius" attitude that gets on everyones nerves after awhile.

Frank Kramer's (of FHF) first opinion of Adam Carolla was right. He is a dick. And after listening to him for some time now I finally agree.

Adam Carolla was funny on the Man Show and was brilliant on Loveline, but when it comes to running his own show, this pretentious asshole blows.

Danny had a show today, will a threesome ruin your relationship. I don't know how he can skirt around the FCC rules and still be funny and descriptive. He's sort of into sex and can joke about it. He's not a pig, he just wants his sex!

Good show, Dan. Keep 'em comin'. :)

Tabloid Baby, your "anonymous" posts attacking Carolla are great. Keep 'em coming!
