Selfish basterds

The News of The World reports that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are splitting and our first response is who gives a shit, but our next reaction is to wonder whether anyone will remark on the hypocrisy of this pretty pair who built a very public relationship around adopting and making children, and then go their separate ways after less than six years, leaving six little kids in the lurch. Even though their children have probably been cared for by a collection of child care professionals, their lives are already so far beyond the ordinary that it's beyond our civilian comprehension and that their parents are on the road so often they probably wouldn't know the difference, a split would reveal that the couple who market themselves as world saviours are selfish brats. We already knew that Angie's team has been expert in controlling her image and the media. Now we can at least look forward to the next woman who'll change the malleable Pitt's image, and the Mia Farrow exposé of Angelina's adoption obsession that's bound to follow.
