Is Brittany Murphy our Karen Carpenter?

Interesting that the Los Angeles County Coroner immediately dismissed drugs as a factor in the death of tragic actress Brittany Murphy-- despite the large quantities of prescription medication found in the home where she died and the perception around town that she had substance issues. And whether the coroner's statement is Danny Gans-style parsing or a legally shrewd move, it has combined with true shock among many people who remember Brittany from her brighter days to lead to hopeful speculation that Brittany died not from excess but as a result of anorexia. Hopeful, because if that were to be the case, Brittany would not be another wasted talent, but a victim of society's cruel expectations, our culture's twisted demands, and the resulting distorted body image among many women and girls. She would be a feminist icon. She would be this generation's Karen Carpenter. She would have died for our sins. At least for the next six weeks until the toxicology results come through.

The true tragedy here is that Hollywood hasn’t learned a MOTHER ‘EFFIN’ thing since Karen Carpenter

Young actresses are STILL badgered to lose “just a few” pounds because they’re too “fat”

see Brittney in “Clueless”

She was adorable and NOT fat in anyway she just had pudgy cheeks that would have fixed themselves as she matured, grew into herself

Hollywood should be ashamed of themselves

It is time for a REVOLT!!!!

Boycott ANY movie ANY TV show ANY magazine ANYTHING that has an overly thin actress in it.

You can spot them easily they’re the ones that are in the lead roles and have toothpicks for arms.

This is a worse epidemic than the ‘effin’ Swine Flu! And more people are dying from it it’s a giant vicious cycle

Some of us who remember Karen Carpenter wondered if there was a connection and would anyone see it besides us.

All that needs to come out now is that Brittany had a fascination for Karen in the same fashion as Chris Farley had for John Belushi.

Now we read that Brittany will be interred at Forest Lawn, the same cemetery where Karen was originally interred.

I second ABMP's observations.

Walk into the light, Brittany. Your work here is finished, rest in peace.
