Hilly Krystal was the founder and owner of CBGB. He hired lots of local bands and made them play original music. His club was a dump and we spent a lot of time there back in the day. Saw a lot of bands. Took the kids past the place two summers ago to show them the awning. Had to rush the stroller across Bowery to escape a gang of rampaging skinheads. The club died last year. Hilly died this week at 75. He never got to open up that CBs in Las Vegas.
