Dakota Fanning is Cherie Currie

The first trailers are out for The Runaways, the movie about the Seventies jailbait rock 'n' group fronted by Tabloid Baby pal Cherie Currie, who's played by Dakota Fanning (while the girl from Twilight brings her sullen charm to Joan Jett and Elvis' granddaughter is in there somewhere), and it looks like it rocks tabloid at its finest. Cherie, whether rocking the microphone or a chainsaw (look it up) is a doll (and one of the coolest women we know), and the movie is based at long last on her harrowing rock 'n roll suburban memoir Neon Angel, which we expect to be republished with a cool new cover and hit the best seller list when the movie hits.

New movie pays tribute to Dr. Ruehl

Tabloid Baby pal and contributor Dr. Franklin Ruehl, Ph.D. is the subject of a cinematic homage in a new film that arrived in theatres yesterday.

The film is The Sasquatch Gang, billed as being "from the guys that brought you Napoleon Dynamite" (which is on Tabloid Baby’s list of the Top 50 Movies of All Time). Two years ago, after leading Tabloid Baby pal and award-winning television and film producer Brett Hudson and rock goddess (and Tabloid Baby pal) Cherie Currie on an expedition to the Norway House Indian reserve in Canada to uncover evidence behind a reported sighting of a Bigfoot during the ill-fated revival of A Current Affair, Dr. Ruehl received a call from the producers who were filming in Oregon. The filmmakers asked for permission to use him as the model for the character of the Bigfoot expert.

The Doctor, of course, agreed.

Now, in a year that has seen Dr. Ruehl find tremendous success in his as avocation as a film and TV actor, the movie whose title has been shortened to The Sasquatch Gang, the character Dr. Artmus Snodgrass is a cinematic homage to Dr. Franklin Ruehl.

Dr. Snodgrass is played by Carl Weathers, who portrayed Apollo Creed in Rocky, Rocky II, III and IV.
