Carolla stunt backfires! Cohost Danny Bonaduce gets his own radio show while Carolla is forced to fend for himself in the mornings...

Pouting radio boremeister Adam Carolla's sickout last week from his morning radio show heard in Los Angeles and other markets on the west coast has backfired as his professional cohost Danny Bonaduce has been cut loose from the second banana role and elevated to own afternoon radio show.

Bonaduce's forced entry onto the Carolla team a year ago led to blossoming ratings, new energy and unprecedented relevance for the struggling monotonous replacement for Howard Stern's broadcast. But despite the intelligence and wit Bonaduce brought to the proceedings, Carolla's jealousy has been evident on air in recent months, especially after Bonaduce began to receive rave reviews for his raw-nerved honesty in wake of his divorce, new television deals and public controversy that only raised his own profile while dragging the show along behind him. Last week, Carolla "called in sick," hoping to force his bosses to return creative control and to boost his salary, as they had rewarded Bonaduce.

As a result, the CBS Radio suits showed they've been watching this space, and have done what we'd asked them to do in October-- they've given Bonaduce his own afternoon show, stealing an hour from the mirthless laughfest of Frosty, Heidi and Frank.

Carolla will get one last chance on his own, along with a subservient female "newsreader" and sexual punching bag who also works for the television show based on the corporate porn-pushing gossip site TMZ.com. While Carolla's firt season was filled with a cast of lowbrow braying buddies and concocted "characters," we'll bet he will again be saddled with a bright professional radio sidekick.

The news release arrived this morning:

CBS RADIO PRESS ROOM
December 21, 2007
CBS RADIO RENEWS "THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW"
Weekday Morning Program Broadcast On Several CBS RADIO Stations Earning Its Best Ratings Ever
Featured Contributor Danny Bonaduce To Host His Own Afternoon Radio Program On KLSX-FM
On the heels of its outstanding summer ratings, CBS RADIO delivered more good news for Adam Carolla. The Company announced today it has signed a multi-year contract extension with Adam that positions the funny-man solidly in the highly competitive Los Angeles market for years to come.
THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW can be heard on its flagship station, 97.1 KLSX-FM, weekday mornings from 6:00-10:00AM, PT, and can also be found on KUFO-FM in Portland and KXTE-FM in Las Vegas. In addition, the show is simulcast on www.adamcarolla.com, as well as the websites of KLSX (www.971freefm.com), KUFO (www.kufo.com), and KXTE (www.xtremeradio.com). THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW is also syndicated through Westwood One in several major markets, including Seattle, Sacramento and Fresno, among others.

“Two years ago morning radio went through a seismic change, one that granted Adam Carolla the opportunity to launch his own unique style of entertainment in a coveted time slot,” said Chris Oliviero, Vice President of Programming, CBS RADIO. “THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW has far exceeded our expectations and proven to be a listener favorite. We are thrilled to continue our relationship with Adam, and anticipate even more success for the program in the years to come.”
“I'm incredibly excited to continue my relationship with the fine folks at CBS RADIO,” said Carolla. “Launching a new show is never an easy task, but I feel like the past two years have laid the cement foundation and I'm now ready to throw the house warming party. I'm looking forward to returning to work on January 2, just not at 5:30 in the morning.”
The Adam Carolla Show began broadcasting in January 2005 and has steadily gained listeners to become one of the top shows among its target demographic of Men 25-54. According to Arbitron’s summer ratings, The Adam Carolla Show had its highest morning drive numbers in Los Angeles since the shows debut, and ranked in the top five with Men 18-34 and Men 25-54 General Market. Additionally, the program has gained a loyal following among female listeners.
In a related announcement, contributing show member Danny Bonaduce will relinquish his role on THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW and begin hosting his own program on KLSX. Positioned between the highly rated Frosty, Heidi & Frank Show (10:00AM-2:00PM) and industry icon Tom Leykis’ program (3:00-8:00PM), BROADCASTING BONADUCE: THE DANNY BONADUCE SHOW will premiere Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 on-air and online from 2:00-3:00PM, PT. Teresa Strasser will continue to contribute to the station’s morning drive program with Adam Carolla.
“This announcement will maximize Danny’s exposure on the station and the web where he has a national following. He has brought much excitement and entertainment to THE ADAM CAROLLA SHOW and we expect him to bring the same enthusiasm to the afternoon time slot,” said Jack Silver, Vice President of Programming, KLSX.

  1. You're a pathetic loser to try to spin this as good news for Bonaduce, I'm just glad no one reads this website except for everyone laughing at you at the UnOfficial Adam Carolla Message Board.

Danny Bonaduce is the new Sam Ruben, and has been shafted to a 1 Hour Slot show.

  2. Now Carolla is on his own with the T-bag! Watch the ratings slide without the sparkplug Bonaduce!

  4. LOL! Look at this idiot flail about.

YOU WERE WRONG. Just admit it and you might be able to walk away with some dignity. This pathetic attempt to spin this in favor of your demented love of that little troll just shows what a fool you are.

    "Carolla stunt backfires." AHHAHAHAHAHA!

  6. Read the release,, Jack Silver said, Danny got fired, and since we have to pay him anyway will stick him in the afternoon for one hour for two rating periods (six months).

    Good news for Adam fans,

  9. Is this what you said when your wife divorced you?

    Hah! Your stunt backfired!

Have fun with your one hour of Bonaduce. Poor Adam has only 4 ;(

  10. The reason Bonaduce is so annoying is that during the show, he is constantly trying to compensate for his small c0ck!

The author of this blog keeps defending Bonaduce so much. He must have a small c0ck too!

  11. Cock talk. Real smarts from the Acehole crowd.

Reality check, kiddies. No way would Bonaduce turn down Emmis and the Loop in Chicago mere months ago, unless there were plans to keep him busy at CBS.

He's either in a holding pattern as a future replacement, or he'll move within the CBS radio group. You don't fire someone by keeping them on the air, in the middle of the day.

  12. Danny blows, how can anyone listen to
him. All he wants to talk about is how tough he thinks he is.

  13. While Danny is almost never funny on purpose and seems to have a one-track mind, his unusual good-natured bad boy personality is a great complement to Carolla's quick-witted, cold-hearted sarcastic pesimism. I never really realized this until I heard Norm MacDonald on the show. Norm is a thousand times funnier than Danny but his tone is too similar to Adam's for him to work as a sidekick.

Danny leaving Adam and getting his own show sounds like a lose-lose situation, but we'll have to wait and see what other changes take place next year and hope for the best...

  14. You should rename this site MISSEDIT.com

Bonaduce was horrible, Adam is hilarious

that's about as plain as I can put it

  15. Is everyone here stupid. The reason Bonaduce was brought on to the AC Show was because it was failing miseribly with that demisheck a-hole and Adam can't carry it on his own. Once Bonaduce ( no i'm not a fan) joined the show, the ratings went up along with Adams discontent for Danny. DB would call Adam on his bs sometimes and although BD is an idiot he did save the show!

  16. The ratings didn't go up because of the Duchebag, they went up because at the same time Duche joined up with Adam they cancelled the 98.7 morning show and no one could stand to listen to the crappy Valentine and Lisa so they migrated to other stations, KLSX being one of them. Unfortunate that the Duchebag is taking credit for this when he's not the reason for the increase in listeners.

  17. I think Bonaduce just gradually revealed a little too much of himself. I remember the show where he revealed he would empty Adams lost wallet of cash before he returned it. Just being honest as a former thieving drug addict with no morals. The whole group was stunned. There's nothing worse than realizing you're working with a thief. The only thing that makes work hard is coming in and seeing people you don't like. Bonaduce worked his way up the aversion ladder with those sort of reveals. I'm glad he's gone. Carolla and the other talents are consistently funny.

  18. thank god that ass Bonaduce is gone from the morning show. I had to stop listening to the Adam Carola show because everytime I heard Danny's voice I wanted to tear my ears off. That loud mouth self-serving narcisist is lucky to get the one hour per day - in a no- man's land time slot. If there was a fifteen minute time slot, Jack Silver would haven given it to him. DB has never had an original thought in his life. He just spews out things he's heard from other people and then tries to convince listeners they were his thoughts. Now it's easy to change the station when that blow hard comes on.

  19. On the 1st day of his new show Bonaduce said, "They even created a new time slot just for Me, b4 this it didn't even exist"! Actually KLSX only plays repeats of the 10:AM broadcast hr. , because the others dont want that slot (too late for morn / early for afternoon. Why would Danny say that, does he "spin" things?

  20. Bonaducebag was killing this show, i'd cringe at the sound of his voice... The "1-up" guy is out for the count!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Since Howard left, that time slot has been 4 or 5 hours of nothing/boring. Carolla sux, so does his douche bag mentor jimmy. So much creativity put into that show.

Give the slot to the triplets. I heard on Leykis that ratings were up big time since Danny joined. So give him some credit.

I'll watch and hope that the trips take that slot. Remember that David Lee Roth had a big contract and was let go.

  22. ^ Ratings are dramatically up since Douche left the show, so you might want to drop the ratings argument.

  23. This is really, really late to comment, but I just thought I'd point out two things:

    1) Danny's show did not steal an hour from Heidi, Frosty and Frank. The 2pm - 3pm slot was a repeat of FHF's first hour, anyway, so it was open.

    2) Adam's fans were VERY vocal about Bonaduce and wanting him out. I don't really have a problem with Bonaduce, but he was really, really, REALLY wrong for that show. After a year of his loyal listeners complaints, he did what he needed to do to get the show back for himself. And, it didn't really backfire, since he got exactly what he wanted.

Thank you for reading. Good day.
