"Four a.m. phone call": The woman who was first to be notified of Danny Gans' death

Beauty queen-turned-entertainment reporter Alicia Jacobs was the one who broke the news of Danny Gans' untimely death Friday morning. The beauty queen-turned entertainment reporter on the local NBC affiliate KVBC (and "Queen of Celebrity Scoop") said she got a phone call from Gans' manager informing him of the death "at about four a.m.", which would have been within fifteen minutes of the time that Gans' wife phoned paramedics to report that her husband was having "breathing problems."

Jacobs gave an emotional tribute to Danny Gans on Friday's newscast (click here to see the segment), in which she called Gans "a very important special friend in my life" before leading into a tape that began with Gans singing "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" in the voice of Rod Stewart. Jacobs, who also said she'd conducted Gans' final interview, showed off a Bible she said Gans had inscribed and given to her twelve years ago.

The report contains an interview with Gans' manager Chip Lightman, who confirmed that he received a phone call from Gans' wife telling him "Danny passed away," and that he then called Alicia Jacobs to inform her of Gans' death.
