TMZ.com gets the basic facts wrong while making fun of the alleged arson fire that that threatened innocent children at Sarah Palin's church

The popper-happy weekend crew at the corporate porn-pushing gossip site TMZ.com really could use an editor or at least someone to give their crapulous droppings a once-over before hitting the "post" key, because they tend to get it wrong in the most embarrassing places.

This morning, it's in their very wrongheaded, distasteful and downright cruel attempt to make fun of the alleged arson attack at Sarah Palin's church in Wasilla, Alaska.

Sarah Palin wasn't at the Wasilla Bible Church Friday night when a fire caused more than a million dollars in damage. But a bunch of innocent children were there-- and they could have been hurt or killed-- so it's really not funny.

Nor is it funny that someone would lash out at a church because they didn't like Sarah Palin's displays.

But leave it to the increasingly irrelevant TMZ, whose West Hollywood weekend desk amateur gets the facts very obviously wrong in writing:

"...Sarah hoped (the fire) wasn't in connection to the "undeserved negative attention" from her failed campaign...

"The negative attention she might be referring to: The surreal YouTube videos showing the church's Reverend Thomas Muthee performing a ceremony to protect Sarah from... um ...er ...witchcraft."

A lame "punchline," too stupid to even reprint, followed.

But the point is: it's the wrong church.

A cursory factcheck (or a check of TabloidBaby.com) would show that the witchcraft ceremony took place at her former church, the Wasilla Assembly of God at 125 Riley Avenue-- not at The Wasilla Bible Church, which is located at 651 W. Nicola Avenue.

(Additionally, Rev. Muthee was not part of the church, but a visiting pastor from Kenya.)

Further evidence that the TMZ morons really should stay away from grownups and real news.

(Okay, posted at 8:17 a.m. Pacific time. let's see how long it takes for them to make the correction.)
